GIVE PEACE A CHANCE...
I've just turned on the news...it seems that we are on the brink of a new war in the Middle East. Two hundred people have died today, more than 750 were injured, and the death toll will most certainly continue to rise.
The "Holy Land" it seems is the most un-holy place on Earth. Only two days after the birth of the Messiah, shortly after Ramadan and during the celebration of Chanukka, more than two hundred human beings have died in the Holy Land - the 'epicenter' of three world religions.
What on Earth does this say about said religions and their followers in the first place? Despite preaching peace, the followers of said religions don't seem to get along living in the same spot. How pathetic and sad...
I am taking nobody's side...except the side of the victims...it is generally the common man and woman who pay the price. Instead of a peaceful get-together, people were granted a day of carnage and turmoil today.
This is yet again a glaring testament of our short-comings, of our utter inadequacy and our complete inaptitude as a human race...
Will those who rule the masses ever wise up?
I highly doubt it - as they aren't the ones who DO THE DYING - others do the dying in THEIR name!
GIVE PEACE A CHANCE!
GIVE THE PEOPLE - regardless of their ethnicity and/or their religious belief - A FRICKING CHANCE!
It is my profound belief that MOST people seek a peaceful life - if only you let them have it.
I lit a candle for world peace in our cathedral on the 25th - in vain it seems...
This is a truly sad after-Christmas and the on-going bloody conflict in the Middle East is a glaring FAILURE for all of mankind.

You said it perfectly, Stone.
I've said before...what is next? What is this world coming to?
Palestinian rockets have killed one, maybe two people in Sderot in the past several years, and the Israelis have killed thousands of Palestinians, almost all of them civilians, during the same time. There is no equivalency here.
Israeli continues to conduct a blockade of Gaza that has led to malnutrition and people dying from lack of medical care. There is no justification for this in international law or anywhere else.
Israel continues a military occupation of the West Bank, despite the fact that their last war with Arab states was in 1973 and that did not involve the Palestinians. Israel has destroyed the economy of Gaza and most of the economy of the West BAnk. This does not have any military/security utility as it only endangers Israel. The purpose of these blockades is to get Palestinians to emigrate from the West Bank so that Israel can steal the land.
This is all about land. It isn't about religion at all.
Stone
I can feel your frustration.
Peace is a choice it must be willed into being only the people can make it happen.
***Peace is a choice it must be willed into being only the people can make it happen.***
I absolutely agree...and there are still FAR TOO many people on either side of the political fence that are not interested in peace.
I have to agree with Elizabeth here...it's mainly about the land and who ought to rule over it.
There are forces in Isreal who would LOVE to drive all Palestinians out of the region - if necessary by force.
The same goes for the fundamentalists on the Palestinian side.
The thing is...BOTH fractions cling on to the past...they want to recreate a status quo that existed once...if only they started to embrace the present ON EITHER FUCKING SIDE!!!
